Hello, my name is Gretchen Lee Bourquin, welcome to my new blog "Authorscopes." First of all, I want to make it clear that this is not a "horoscopes for authors" blog. My clairvoyant skills are somewhere between limited and zero, which I'm fine with. Really.
I'm an author myself. I self-published a book, "No Sensible People" and racked my brain and heart trying to market it, but my sales were still limited despite good reviews. I dropped off the radar, more or less for a while but I'm back and ready to celebrate authors and the work they do -- or have done.
My goal in Authorscopes is to blend book reviews with author biographies to give a wider scope of an author and his/her work. My goal is to write these Authorscopes weekly, but I expect they will be somewhat irregular at first. Perhaps twice a month. I'm currently in the last 100 pages of Moby Dick, so I will probably begin there, with Herman Melville.
But my posts will not be limited to classic writers. My interests in books range from classics, to best sellers, to independent and small press authors. Chances are, I will feature mostly fiction writers, but non-fiction, or poetry, or children's books could show up here as well. I'm open to suggestions, but I don't plan on promising reviews/scopes. If you're an author, and living, I will attempt to notify you that you've been chosen as the subject of my blog.
For now, I'm off to read and research. My own rule is to have read at least one of an author's books relatively recently before attempting to "scope" the author. Down the line, I may be open to an occasional guest blogger-- if your a blogger interested in this format let me know.
